Plot, characters, and writing aside, Borderlands 3 was a very well made and fun game on a technical level. I’m definitely interested in Borderlands 4, as long as we can continue to skip cutscenes lmao.

Can you tell me what you liked about it? I’m not a fan in general (looter shooters like that just aren’t my thing), but all my friends are, and none of them have ever had a positive thing to say about 3, with opinions ranging from meh at best to absolutely awful. Hell, even the guy in our group who unironically loves bad games even had nothing good to say

As a Borderlands sequel, or just as a game? I’ve never actually heard anyone complain about the gameplay. It’s the same gameplay the series is known for but even more refined, with tons of QoL improvements. It is quite literally the best in its class with no real equal.

The only thing I can imagine about your friends is that they didn’t get through much of the gameplay because they were turned off by the horrifically bad writing, cringelord villains, and a sense of humor firmly stuck 15 years in the past, which I would not blame them for.

Yeah, gameplay wise, it was pretty solid. Main story was almost total blah. Season 1 dlc stories were a lot better imnsho.

The drop rate for legendaries were ridiculous, it rained legendaries everywhere, it felt un special. So, I guess, the loot rarity rates seemed a bit not-rare.

They’ve actually all finished the story afaik. And all the things you listed were the main reasons they all didn’t like the game.

Yeah people were spoiled by how good the characters and story were in Borderlands 2. They forgot how Borderlands 1 didn’t even really have a plot and for the most part doesn’t need one.

I actually really enjoyed the Eldritch horror storyline. Though overall it’s a somewhat forgettable story. Still better than Pre-Sequel in my mind. But I’m the odd one out I know

fair enough. I was dying from the cringe which took away from the enjoyment of the game mechanics for me. Really it was 90% Ava’s fault. Comparatively it almost makes that section of ps4 God of War where atreus had his rebelious phase enjoyable.

God damn this was funny. Plot, characters, and writing aside. You wrote that and then continued on with your argument.

…yeah? It’s a video game, not a movie. Why would anyone let three things that aren’t crucial to a game stop them from enjoying the things that are crucial to a game? The skip cutscene button works just fine lol.

If that’s your definition of a low bar, then it hasn’t really fallen so much as it’s always been that low. From the beginning, games have gone without cutscenes, plot, even dialogue. Many of the greatest and most beloved games of this decade and the last have had sub par stories, and often times no plot, cutscenes, or characters to speak of at all, and yet they’re some of the best of all time. They’re three of the least important things for a game to have after all, especially the Borderlands games, where the story is little more than a vehicle to deliver more gameplay, and the gameplay in 3 is the best of the series. Thats the only thing that really matters when it comes to people wanting to play games.

He and his friends should go on an elaborate cross country road trip to the 2K offices so they can try to steal an early copy of Borderlands 4.

If they flew him to Texas that’d be pretty cool actually. I was in a pre-alpha game testing group for the first Borderlands game back around 2010 and their offices were pretty cool.

I’m sure, with the success of Borderlands since then, they’ve moved to a bigger and better office, but if it’s possible to get him there to play an early build that would be really cool.

They did some great fan service before. In Borderlands 2, there is the NPC Michael Mamaril in Sanctuary who can randomly give out guns when talked to. That NPC is a tribute to the real Michael Mamaril, a fan that passed before Borderlands 2 was released
