There are some guns created by reactionaries which were actually used in based countries like for example DDR and SFRY used Walther P38 after WW2, and that’s one of the cooler ones imo.
Yugoslavia repurposed MG42 into M53 which looks cool as fuck.
And imo Thompson is one of the raddest guns, and I’m actually used to it being a nazi exterminator along with PPSH-41 since I grew up with old WW2 movies.
Which are your favorites in this category?
They are SO uncomfortable to shoot though. I’m told you get used to it, but I came away very disappointed after shooting a couple. They’re awkward to hold, the brass is usually ejected uncomfortably close to your face (or in your face if you’re a leftie), and mag changes are obnoxious.
Aren’t most modern ones ambidextrous? Either in that the ejection port can be placed on either side, or like the P90 design where the brass comes out the bottom. I can imagine mag changes being awkward depending on the location and necessary movements.
How were they awkward to hold in your experience? I have no hands on experience with bullpups but my sense of balance makes me think they’re better with the center of mass closer to your body.
Many of them are ambidextrous. But not all, and it’s still uncomfortably close either way. Shells ejecting out the bottom is weird in it’s own way, as that is where your feet/platform are.
It’s been a while since I’ve shot them, so I don’t recall the exact gripping problems I had. I think it might have been the placement of the trigger coupled with the extremely short barrel ahead of it. But magazine changes were awful, since the magazine was practically touching my boob.
Edit: Thinking about it further, it was the SCAR that I had troubles holding. On the SCAR, the magazine is still in front of the trigger. So the trigger is pulled back very close to the body, resulting in your arm being tucked very closely in. It was weird, but magazine changes were easier.
That makes sense. I’m thinking of this all with a cis male body and bias. As are firearms manufacturers I’m sure.
Doesn’t the SCAR have a telescoping stock? I could be mixing things up though. It’s been over a decade since I paid much attention to firearms.
I think you’d just have to shoot it yourself to see what I really mean.
