Just got back from seeing the new Wes Anderson movie. It sure was a Wes Anderson movie… also, Rice by the end of the week, please, my heart can’t take much more of this.

I thought it was solid - I’d say 7/10. For reference, I really enjoyed Grand Budapest and did not love the French Dispatch. Anderson takes his framing devices to another level in this movie, so if that annoys you, that might affect your enjoyment.

It’s a star-studded cast but that almost makes it worse for me - so many people are in it that didn’t necessarily need to be. I can’t complain too much, though, I assume it’s indicative of Anderson’s success when so many high-profile actors/actresses want to be involved in his pictures.

I loved Grand Budapest but skipped French a dispatch because I had heard similar experiences about it.

The star-studded cast is actually one of the reasons I’m kinda “meh” on seeing it. It feels gimmicky and I worry there isn’t much story there.

Outside of the “what… are they doing here?” reaction for a few of the characters when you first see who’s playing them, I wouldn’t say it detracts too hard from the story. It’s a story by an artist, about his art, and thus it’s a little navel gazey, but I thought it still made for a good narrative.
