Filming has officially begun in Los Angeles on the long-awaited sequel “Freaky Friday 2” at Disney Pictures.

Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis and her former co-star Lindsay Lohan appear in the first official photo from the body swap comedy which has just been released via Disney’s social media channels.

This sequel to the 2003 film boasts a multigenerational twist. Set years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) endured an identity crisis, Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter.

As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice. The original, itself a remake of the 1976 film starring Jodie Foster in the Lohan role, grossed $160 million worldwide.

Also returning from the 2003 movie are Mark Harmon as Ryan, Chad Michael Murray as Jake, Christina Vidal Mitchell as Maddie, Haley Hudson as Peg, Rosalind Chao as Pei-Pei, Lucille Song as Pei-Pei’s mom, and Stephen Tobolowsky as Mr. Bates.

Joining them are Manny Jacinto, Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan. Jordan Weiss penned the script while Nisha Ganatra (“Late Night,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”) directs. Andrew Gunn and Kristin Burr are producing the film which is confirmed to be coming to cinemas in 2025.

Damn Hollywood will really do anything possible to avoid writing new stories, huh?

Who is even asking for this? The article makes it sound like people have been demanding a sequel, while I can’t recall the last time someone even mentioned this movie.

Just the people that will directly profit from its creation. Thats all this is, another paycheque.

      This is a new story.
Freaky Friday has been made a few times. This is the first direct squeal. Making it a genuinely different story this time.

But when you really analyze things, there are only a couple dozen different stories. Estimates at the high end are around the mid 30s. So no, there are no “new” stories. Even if you saw one, you’d probably hate it for not making sense.

First: The guy in the middle has a lot more hair and tears than I do.

Second: Did you read the second part, where I explained there are no new stories anyway?

Third: That seems like a lot of work for no actual counter argument.

Fourth: Maybe I’m wrong the last part, since I don’t actually understand what point your trying to make anyway.
Is it that I’m the one of normal average intelligence?
Or is it that we can’t tell the difference between the very smart and the very stupid?

Nah, this is a sequel trying to pretend to be a new story.

But you can bet it will have body swapping in it, between 2 family members, and all the hilarity that ensues when they try to live each others life. In the end they will have a better understanding of each other and be closer.

New stories are written all the time. Hollywood just doesn’t want to take risks.

        Here is one:

        spoiler

2 peoples senses combine, they see what the other sees, taste what the other taste, and feel what the other feels. They don’t know each other. One is a highly professional dancing/performer, the other an unemployed stoner. They find one another though their senses. Turns out it was just a prank from Zeus.

!spoiler spoiler In Your Eyes (2014)
They have different jobs. The phenomenon is never explained. But it’s the same basic story. The shared senses romance has been done.

And when you really think about it, that’s just a new spin on a pen pal romance story anyway, not all that new. !<

A direct sequel would be Summer Switch and/or A Billion for Boris. I think they did the latter in the 80s actually.
