What is the best format settings to store a physical music?

I did look at Flac but the data is almost the same size as the uncompressed Wav and none of my devices or self hosted services seem designed to play flac files. Everything gets converted.

FLAC is pretty much the standard. No loss, reasonable compression (2:1 average, Google this), supports hdaudio, multichannel, any common bitrate and bit depth. It is the format of choice when purchasing and downloading content from the likes of 7digital qobuz etc. universally supported by players including hardware-based hifi players. You can’t go wrong with it.
