I recently got my hands on an ASUS device equipped with an fingerprint sensor . As a Fedora user, I’ve been trying to set up the fingerprint sensor on my system, but it’s proven to be quite a challenge.
So, I’m reaching out to the community here for some guidance. Has anyone successfully configured an ASUS fingerprint sensor on Fedora before? If so, could you please share your experience and any tips or resources that might be helpful?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
My help here will be general, because I have no experience with this.
But a fingerprint reader is just an IO device, right? So I’d use
lshw
to find specific info on that IO device, and then make sure I had the right drivers for that specific IO device. If you’ve already done that, then I’m no help :)
The links you posted suggest there is no driver available for your fingerprint reader on Linux. If this is correct, you can’t use it, as without a driver the operating system doesn’t know how to communicate with the device.
As a side note, apart from Android devices I’ve never had a working fingerprint reader on Linux.
I ran into the same issue on my ASUS laptop but was never able to get it working.
Don’t waste your time. Even if you manage to get the sensor to work, you’ll only be able to like log in.
