Oh boy Fedi, do I have a weird one.

Ive posted here a few times regarding my basement build, and one of the handymen noted that if I am not going to cover up my ceiling, I have two exposed I beams. One runs through the kitchen, and one through a bedroom (mine). We were talking about mounting a spice rack, and he said I could mount a piece of wood on to an I beam trolly.

These things are cheap, and they are strong. What kind of fuckery can I get up to with them? Especially one in my bedroom? Is there anything ceiling mounted you just wish you could slide across the room, and back again? I’m envisioning something I can collapse against the wall.

Is this just insane?

An I beam trolley in your kitchen is awesome for those times you need a place for a chain to hoist the engine out of your car and then move that engine into your living room.

Also, when your floor is lava, you possibly have an escape route now.

bedroom could use a hammock or swinging seat. track lighting fell out of fashion decades ago due to fire hazard i believe.

kitchen could have hanging pots and pans storage.

Thanks for being among the few serious posters (although I am not downplaying how funny this thread ended up being.

For the bedroom, I was considering a hanging chair that can slide across the bedroom. I was actually thinking about mounting a desk on collapsing brackets, so the chair slides into place next to it or can used to join small sitting area.

The other thing I was considering is a sliding half wall for both. I was thinking for the kitchen mounting a spice rack (like the handyman suggested.) I haven’t considered what i would mount on the bed room half wall yet. If i don’t mount a hanging chair on it, then my arm chair and bed will be on opposite sides of the track (and opposite corners of the room). Not sure. I have soem time to consider it.
