Proton is very gaming on Linux friendly, i main on Linux for a few decades now and had about 3-4 games not work. So i wouldn’t worry about that, however lightroom (and i assume the rest of adobe suit) is out. Couldn’t find a way to install it sensibly at all. Which is unfortunate. The backup for this for me was to use an old android tablet and sometimes id use the work mac out of hours to do some post-processing.

But the rest doesn’t matter much, i personally like Manjaro but the distro doesn’t really matter.

Heck. Photoshop is a big one for me.

I have the Mac book (got it from a former employer), but switching between the PC/Mac/and current work computer would be a hassle

Oh, if you do go with Fedora KDE Plasma, hit me up when you’re ready to install Steam and I’ll help you get it working. There’s a “mistake” with it that double flags graphics acceleration so it runs but doesn’t do anything. (All you have to do is un-tick a box).

GIMP is your FOSS photoshop. I don’t do photo/image work, so beyond that, I can’t help. Also, to add to what others have said, Linux Mint and Fedora (KDE Plasma spin) are good choices, as well. As it was suggested to me when I wanted to switch: get yourself a thumb drive, install Ventoy on it, and drop a few different distro live ISOs on it that pique your interest, and try them out before settling.
