Used a couple of US recipes recently and most of the ingredients are in cups, or spoons, not by weight. This is a nightmare to convert. Do Americans not own scales or something? What’s the reason for measuring everything by volume?

That’s great and all, but they never said metric was based off of someone’s foot, they said that the Foot unit of measurement (as in, 3 feet = 1 yard) was based off of the size of a king’s foot. The metal they are talking about was a block of metal that was measured out to a meter and used as the standard so there was something to verify the meter on, say, your measuring stick, is actually marked correctly. That sort of thing.
