Being federated doesn’t make Lemmy psychologically healthy, it’s still a descendant of a design paradigm meant to extract your attention. Every time I see something I didn’t want to see, that’s a moment of effort to redirect my attention back to things I consider worthwhile. I only have so much time and so much effort. A large part of me just wants to call it quits but I need a way to talk about stuff I can’t talk to anyone IRL about, so I’m trying it for now.

I really don’t like that the default page (at least on lemmy.world) is “all.” I’d like to turn off that page or mass block almost every community but I don’t know that the technology exists to do either of those.

Anything folks do to waste less time & make Lemmy work for them?

I currently have 250 communities and 20-something instances blocked, along with and 20-something filtered words such as “slams”, “blasts”, “Biden”, “democrats”, “republicans”, and “trump”.

I also subscribe to more interest based or generally positive communities like Android, cats, aww, bread, dadjokes, etc that way I avoid the main ones that are just people complaining about politics and capitalism. Sometimes it leaks out into these anyways but it’s a lot better

I also just GTFO Lemmy if there’s nothing interesting today

Matter chief’s suit doesn’t jack him off, it doesn’t. You’ve reached the bgd fandom epoch where even nerds in your life song don’t understand. They don’t understand it doesn’t jack him off.

You just have to make those spaces yourself and then populate them. If your looking for general advice, don’t tolerate intolerance. Otherwise, you just need to find the people that know – and appreciate the journey of knowing – that master chief’s suit doesn’t jack him off.

I suspect that Lemmy will be unable to shake it’s negative bias until it fully faces and addresses the massive amounts of authoritarian propaganda from the Kremlin and CCP.

I’d love to see a healthy, authentic platform in a couple years, but for now I agree it’s not psychologically healthy.
