Senior U.S. officials say President Joe Biden has decided to keep the U.S. Space Command headquarters in Colorado, overturning a last-ditch decision by the Trump administration to move it to Alabama.
First, a Huntsville location wouldn’t be ready until 2030 so this decision doesn’t ACTUALLY change much any time soon.
Second…yeah, I think it was political. And the original Huntsville announcement by the prior admin was political. None of the options are perfect, someone has to weigh costs and benefits so we decided it should be the Commander in Chief. Fine. He happens to have some electoral interest in keeping it Colorado instead of Alabama, maybe that impacted his decision. Fine. There was a political calculation for the invasion of Iraq, the killing of Osama, the agreement with the Taliban to withdraw from Afghanistan. We let our political leaders make these decisions, these are the results.
