I made two posts on !anime@lemmy.ml, neither are visible on both instances lemmy.ml are recommending.

beehaw.org has already become a much bigger instance and they ban lemmygrad, we’re already invisible to half the people using lemmy.

It will keep getting worse, at some point you’ll need to maintain two separate instance accounts and you’ll consider dropping one of them.

@Raphael I don’t think Lemmygrad (or Hexbear, which I mostly post on) need to try and hoover up a bunch of new users from this, or worry about getting shut out. The community was getting on fine before. This will contribute some growth, which is nice, but there’s no *need* to grow aggressively. Use lemmy.ml to do propaganda/agitation, because you know they’ll never defederate. It’ll be a useful shared forum while this remains its own independent space.

If “lemmy is developed by socialists/communists/leftists” is enough for folks to steer clear of it (or move over to kbin, as I’ve seen at least one radlib insist that folks do rather than lemmy), then… “task failed successfully” in my eyes. No real loss.

I feel like lurkers are not considered in the growth, the sudden user influx is something that broke the camel’s back for me and made me return. But with the same influx of users there definitely was also lurkers who came over, although I guess after the blackout their numbers will dwindle the quickest, as they are more for consumption rather than propagation.

Damn imagine. They really should be paying us tbh, we do some good work lmao. But yeah, to be serious, it always seems wild that China would actively be paying people to do this shit, like have they considered that we actually are just ideologically kind of aligned with the CPC? Much more easy conclusion to come to imo, Occam’s Razor and all that.

When one’s own income depends on closing one’s eyes to capitalist brutality, it becomes easier to assume that one’s ideological enemies are doing the same thing: ignoring atrocities for a pay cheque.

I don’t expect the radlibs that are joining beehaw.org to stay much longer after the Reddit blackout ends, the mentality they have of trying to bully out X political faction they don’t like on lemmy.ml isn’t healthy to building and maintaining any community. This time it’s “tankies”, next month it might be liberals who only buy 99% of the CIA narrative on [insert issue of the month here] instead of 100%.

Look at it positively comrades, growing our own community here only has benefits and hexbear.net might federate with us soon!

I heard Hexbear is only going to federate with Lemmygrad. I’m a noob when it comes to this stuff - do you know if that means individual Hexbear users will still be able to post on other instances, and it just won’t automatically show up on the all page for Hexbear users?

If two instances aren’t federated, users of each can’t interact with eachother. As to Hexbear’s federation plans, from a bit of lurking it seems which instances they will federate with - if they do so at all - is up in the air.

They call it “trolling” or “human rights abuse denial” if you disagree with the american narrative. You’re not expressing an opinion, you’re outright lying, because the USA media said so.

Liberal logic. Distinguishing their ideology based on fair democracy and the “fight for your right to express yourself freely”…

…except when your expression challenges the status quo power structure or what constitutes fair democracy. You know like… every ‘totalitarian’ ideology?

As a free software enthusiast, I appreciate anything with “Free” in the title, unless it contains “trial” or any word related to journalism or politics.

The other day Mexico moved to privatize some oil companies, american press immediately pushed some articles saying “Liberal democracy is under attack in Mexico”, the title was “The fascist next door”.

I’m not even kidding, too lazy to look it up though.

They tried to get lemmy.ml to defederate from us when they were created because we kept demolishing them in debates.

They defederated almost from day 1, their admin claiming that we were taking up too much of their disk space because we were so active, and it turned out they just didn’t delete some log files.

Nobody from lemmygrad has ever had a nice interaction with beehaw, despite that it’s literally in their rules to be nice etc.

Look on the bright side: for most of the history of the Internet socialist states had to block out the flood of lib content to keep it from poisoning public discourse.

Now the tide is turning, and liberals are blocking communists out. On the English-speaking internet we’re still a minority, but they’re scared that if they let us freely compete in their marketplace of ideas, we’d be punching well above our size. Truth is a powerful ally, and their suppression of it is failing.

That’s been my approach as well. I also find it’s nice be able to post to lemmy.ml from Lemmygrad and not have all the libs from paces like beehaw descend to downvote. So it’s sort of a feature when you think about it. :)

Wait this is actually hilarious. If Lemmy gets really big and all the liberal instances de-federate from us we can convert more people to marxism and they’ll have no clue what’s happening. They’re basically doing the “if I can’t see you, you can’t see me” thing that kids do.

Holy hell I hope Hexbear federates with Lemmy.

It didn’t used to be so liberal though right? It seems to me with the flood of people from reddit it flipped overnight into almost the exact same liberal groupthink as reddit had.

        • My conjecture based on disagreements I’ve had with them, their goal is to draw in libs so that the marxists actually have people to educate. Without them it kinda became an echo chamber.

          • lmao how are marxists going to educate them if they’re people are gonna block marxist instances and ban (or outright block) marxist users for being “tankies”?

most already go “LALALALA I CAN’T HEAR YOU” if you as much as try to debunk them on lies about the russo-ukrainian war, about china, about dprk anyway; and find marxist solutions to be “too radical”.

I’m kinda doubtful about them. Agreeable says he’s ML, but World News where he is also a mod is notorious for not banning even outright fake NATO propaganda and shills and not just now but even before. Wazowski is inactive and seems to be radlib. K_o_t seems to be some kind of vague green supporting Ukraine, no idea who Maya even is, Arthur Besse idk but posted some ukronazi prop before.

Gonna be honest - it’s currently better to just have an account on lemmy.ml. The reddit format of this site plus the relatively small userbase makes instance blocklists a major headache for communists. Currently, if you want to follow the news on lemmy and have conversation about it, you can’t because all the liberal instances block their users from seeing us.

I imagine that in the future, there will be a large confederation of liberal instances that will be highly reddit-like and ban communists. Then there will also be a smaller confederation of communist instances. There will also be lemmy.ml with the issues you mention… or maybe the liberals will ban that one too since they refuse to block lemmygrad.

I posted on an anime community but since I’m from lemmygrad, I’m invisible to instances that ban lemmygrad.
