I am glad she isn’t screaming.

Or rather that I can’t hear her screaming.

    I know it’s coming.

Can I add a critique? I think you need to add a tiny bit of black (or darker darks) here and there to increase the contrast. Just a few bits, like the chin line, maybe the ear? In the hair? I think that’ll really make the other colours pop. Beauty job on the eyes! Which illustrates what I mean, I think they stand out so well because of those little highlights. More will increase the cohesion of the rest of the painting.

Part of being a good artist and a good viewer of art is to accept and offer feedback, feedback is how we improve. The critique was not rude and was meant to help OP improve. It is important to remember OP doesn’t have to take the feedback into consideration at all, but they did. Moreover - OP can defend their choice, why they did what they did.

All I’m saying is - you sound like a dick.

Soliciting feedback from people whose opinions you respect, sure. But unsolicited comments from a stranger does seem rude to me. This op didn’t mind, maybe others might. The critic doesn’t know. But they do think their opinion is valuable, which also comes off as pompous. Maybe it was a stylistic choice, etc. They don’t know, but they think enough of themselves that they think their opinion is going to be important or useful. It’s about them, not the art or artist.

The thing about art is that it requires an audience and will elicit thought in the viewers that the artist may, or may not have intended. Maybe you’ve never been to art school, but it’s as much about critiquing and analysis as it is about practice. A critique is not a criticism. If you’re not listening to and contemplating your viewers experience and opinion you’re just jerking off with a paint brush. Which is fine, just don’t do it in public.

Not at all. Do you get off on being a jerk?
