Not Oates, he went out into the blizzard and never returned, the absolute madlad. He was poorly, but the others wouldn’t leave him behind to his certain death, so he just up and left the tent for a “little walk”, never to be seen again, in order to give a chance to the others. A true English gentleman.
The others continued their journey for another two weeks or so, until they all died, to be found later.
Oates could still be wandering around in the snow. He did say he might be some time…
Edit: wandering not wondering, although to be fair both are unlikely 140+ years after his birth.
