They did have some not so great time trying to prevent Taliban from gaining power. It wasn’t very succesful.
And of course the Taliban itself is what the CIA turned Mujahideen into.
No, that’s on Afghans themselves. US armed the mujahideen fighters and a faction of that diverse group later on formed Taliban (and their opposition)
