I keep wanting to love Resolve but their codec support has always left a lot to be desired for me. I don’t want to transcode (or even remux) all of my footage before I can start editing.
It looks like they’ve substantially improved that support here so maybe I’ll give it another try!
From my experience it opened all the footage I threw at it, the paid version. I know the free one has some limitations. Still, the asking price for the Studio version is unbeatable.
I switched in June 2019, that’s when I bought Davinci and all 3 Affinity apps. A rough calculation with the 4 apps that I bought, says that I saved around 2.500€. Compared to paying for Adobe Creative Cloud.
After 4 years, I couldn’t be happier, Resolve crashes maybe once a month and it runs laps around Premiere. I use all the apps commercially and haven’t had a problem where I had to get Adobe apps for a client or anything.
