They had a grand plan for an ecosystem involving windows phones, windows and xbox with the windows store. Which is why windows 8 looked as jank as it did and they did UWP. When mobile got killed they scrapped a lot of it, game pass survived and UWP exists but (I’m hoping at least) not many people give a shit about it.
