I’m curious what is the overall roadmap for Bean in the future. I know both Android and iOS are in the plans.

  1. Is iPadOS version under consideration?
  2. What about macOS? If no macOS, will it be allowed to run on Macs as an iPadOS or iOS app?
  3. Will it be free?

Great questions! After iOS is feature complete, I plan to work on the iPad experience more.

After that, I also plan to look at an Android version.

I’m not yet decided on the monetisation route. I’ve put a lot of work into the app so far and would like to dedicate time to it moving forwards so the app likely won’t be free.

I think the route is probably free with so features (themes, icons, etc) paywalled but I’m open to thoughts on it.

Please also consider adding a lifetime-one time purchase option. Willing to pay a good sum for a lifetime purchase.

I think Apollo’s monetization strategy would make the most sense, though obv not as expensive since that app was for a more established platform. Still, a monthly cost to cover stuff like push notifs and more premium icons could work, as well as a ‘Pro’ tier that restricts posting and additional customization features to a one-time payment.

Also, I’ll be the first person to recommend against an Android version. Established players like Sync and Boost are already gonna be tough, let alone the ‘new’ players.

What exactly are you referring to when you say Apollo was expensive?

I’ve seen a lot of people express that thought and I’m genuinely wondering what they’re talking about, because I got Ultra when it was introduced (higher than Pro) and I only paid a dollar a month for it, which seems about as cheap as any app goes for IAPs.

Certainly worth it to support all the cool ass features Apollo had. I miss Share As Image.

People mostly refer to the Ultra subscription, which had tons of paywalled features and was extremely expensive if you went for a Lifetime purchase.

It became a lot easier to justify for access to one of the largest platforms in the world, but it might get harder to justify for Lemmy.

I’d pay for a subscription if it means you can continue to work on the apps full time.

Although, I’m curious as to how it’d work with android app in the mix. Would mean an external service if you’d want to include on universal sub plan.
