Looking to start keeping some daily notes. I don’t mind paying for the app, as long as it’s one time and not subscription. Bonus points it it on f-Droid.

I use Obsidian.md, which starts as a note-taking app, but can end up as a whole knowlegde base. It has a built in core plugin for daily notes, but the plugin ecosphere will allow you to go way beyond that. It is free, however the built-in syncing is a subscription. You can just set up and use any sync service you want, it even has approved plugins for that, as the subscription is basically just a donation.
There is an open-source alternative called logseq, available on fdroid, i dipped my toes into that one for a while, but the plugins on obsidian like dataview and templater are just invaluable.
It’s not as mature, but AnyType is a nice alternative to Obsidian, and includes 1gb syncing for free, which is generous for text.
It’s also open source.
But doesn’t store cleartext, does it?
Nope, but it does export to markdown along with the MIT standard protobuf.
ngl this looks very impressive ootb, however, i rely on dataview a lot, basically my entire work orga is done through various datasets integrated directly into my daily journaling. instead of having to keep track of every item i did/got for a project to calculate together at the end, i just throw everything into a dataview table and thats it. yes, there are apps more suited for this but obsidian just does everything i need more than just good enough. thanks for the rec tho, will keep an eye on it. (it’s now the 4th obsidian alternative im checking out regularily lmao)
Look at Trilium if you want an open source and selfhosted alternative to Obsidian
