If you ask me Izmir in Turkey is fabulous. It is a totally different city from all the other Turkish cities. It has a way more relaxed vibe and people are generous. And the weather is amazing.
Zurich: like going back to the 1500s. Clean, beautifully preserved old town, lake, and views of the alps in the background. (The pay packet is definitely pretty too if you’re working there :)
Medellin: I’m talking from an aesthetic pov (definitely not about the expats). Beautiful, vibrant buildings, graffiti, mountain views.
Singapore: Spotlessly clean, and beautiful old colonial style architecture and buildings.
Kanazawa: peaceful, serene, clean, Kenruoken garden is a thing of beauty.
Edinburgh, Scotland 🏴
St Petersburg hands down. Moscow was beautiful too. I liked Prague and Krakow as well. And Yogyajakarta!
Maybe Kyoto.
Budapest, Paris, Porto, Lviv, Krakow, Prague, Vienna. In no particular order, but I was very impressed by Budapest the first time I went there.
Rio is also beautiful is we take the surrounding nature into account. The city itself is not particularly amazing (there are some nice neighborhoods for sure though), but the area in which it is located is incredible.
Great list! Pleasantly surprised by Budapest too. Gorgeous city especially at night. I’d also add Kyoto, Kanazawa, most Italian cities, Split, Granada, Cusco, and Cape Town in the same sense as Rio.
Probably Oaxaca. If you head down to the bus station area of town it’s not so nice but the centre is lovely, and it’s surrounded by nature.

Kanazawa when the sakura were blooming.
