Hi everyone,

So i’ve been downloading (rsload) from the megathread, and windows defender won’t cooperate. I’m basically 99.9% sure there is in fact nothing harmful, but defender detects a virus and refuses to let me set it as an exception. Even if i try it literally refuses to let me and i haven’t been able to install anything (software, patches, nada). Anyone know a work around?

Try setting a specific folder as Exempt. Download to that folder. If something needs to be installed, pre-make whatever folder the installer is going to make and set that as Exempt too.

You dont want to disable defender completely. Add an exlcuded folder and put your downloads in that. Also exclude the folder it downloads to.

Your post would be more interesting if you stated what file you were downloading. You’re downloading it from the megathread? The megathread provides links to places from which you may download things. It does not provide things for you to download, usually. That’s why you need to be more specific. I think it’s funny how you produced a comment stream that directs you to linux. Like, if your question is legit, ain’t no way you can handle linux. LOL.

You need to disable Defender. However, I think now Windows won’t let you do it unless you install an alternative virus scanner.

IIRC you can disable it entirely with Group Policy Editor which is only available on Pro. I think there was a hack to enable it on Home so you could make Defender shut up once and for all…at least until the next Windows update that reenables it because Windows doesn’t care about your configuration.

Yeah I have no idea tbh, I’m guessing. I do vaguely remember there being multiple parts of Defender to disable.
