Have you ever played a game that was absolutely phenomenal, but when you reached the ending, an extremely disappointing scene played out?
Dark Souls 1 definitely did that for me. Really not a big fan of both endings.
Firewatch. So much buildup and anticipation around who or what’s been stalking you and the mystery around Brian and possibly meeting Delilah and that’s how they concluded it?
Pac-Man.
I’m kidding, because it doesn’t end.
It just keeps going…
Well technically, it does have a end, not many have reached it tho
Halo 2 ended pretty abruptly.
Shadowrun on the SNES.
After everything you’ve been through, fighting through the syndicate, destroying a damn dragon on the top of a skyscraper (with or without rocket launcher!), you just hop in a helicopter and leave the city.
Echoes in my memory as a very, very, very bland ending…
Skyrim. I got to the end and killed Alduin and it was so underwhelming.
Minecraft
the last of us 2
Firewatch I felt cheated when I finished that game. Such a shit ending
Arkham Knight
Mafia 2 … “see you in the DLC b*tch!”-ending
This might be a “hot take” considering it’s about to win about 500 GOTY awards, but Baldur’s Gate 3. Ending was rushed and underwhelming af.
Honestly to many to count. The only super good ending I’ve seen(and accepted) is uncharted 4, it wraps up nicely drake and Elena get a happy ending and we all might get a 5th game playing as his daughter.
Firewatch, but not in a bad way. It was amazing.
Curse of Monkey Island. They ran out of time and budget and it just… ends, with a quick whimper of a cutscene. Wish they’d do a Director’s cut HD remake with the original planned ending.
Fable 2. Get to the big bad and he just dies to a single shot and falls. If you wait and try to listen to his monologue, an npc just gets up and shoots him instead. Fuck you Reaver.
Honestly feel like a lot more people would have appreciated the subversion of expectations the devs were clearly going for… if not for Reaver. Give the player the time to realize that they can just shoot the monologuing asshole, don’t take that closure away from them by letting an NPC do it if they take too long.
I was able to appreciate it later. The villain was just an ordinary man after all, not a Hero. But yeah, the Reaver thing just ruined it.
