We are languishing in 10th, 8 points behind ‘struggling’ Man United. Defense is leaking goals, attack is largely misfiring and players are losing discipline.
The mentality has also become like that of a mid-table team. Nothing in and around the club screams world class at the moment.
I just don’t find many differences between Chelsea and say, Crystal Palace (apart from the wages and all). As fans, should we also have a mid-table mindset? Satisfied with draws against the big boys and finishing the season with 45-50 points?
Cole palmer is Chelsea’s one bright spark at the moment
They are in the middle of the table. Obviously.
Yes.
Once Roman left, I already reverted to 90’s Chelsea mentality. Fucking glad we won the champions league recently, should be able to survive off those fumes for at least another decade.
Small club mentality
This doesn’t answer the question but a big deal is being made of Man U’s struggles in the media (social and mainstream) so it’s easy to use them as a benchmark for “just how bad are we?” However, they’re not a good benchmark for that. Since the start of October, they’re the form team in the league having won every game except vs Man City. They’ve lost two games in the UCL that they shouldn’t be losing but that’s it (and Galatasaray are in splendid form right now anyway).
The thing with man u though is they haven’t really looked very good in many games this season. Having a GD of 0 and 24 points is quite mental. So are they a good side who’s grinding out results when playing poorly. Or are the results papering over the cracks.
They’ve only played 4 decent teams and lost all of them while struggling to beat the likes of sheff utd, Burnley and luton
They’ve won so many games in the last minute. They’ve looked terrible in every performance. People have this idea that they’re just out of form and because they are still winning, it means when they are in form they will be winning even more. That’s just not how it works, you return to your average over time. Right now their results make them look better than they are and they will start drawing/losing more until Ten Hag becomes a better manager or Rashford does that thing where he pretends he’s a good player for 10 games
I love how people just ignore injury crises when it’s United that’s affected. When Liverpool have an injury crisis it’s on the News at Ten and people are holding vigils calling them heroes for not getting relegated.
I mean injury impact is all relative. United compared to the people around them besides villa and Liverpool are the least injured. Teams like spurs are higher than them even after losing like 80% of their starters and new castle is right behind in the same spot.
You can tell when someone’s a new fan when they become worried after their team doesn’t win a trophy for 1-2 years lol. Teams have ups and downs, this is football, get used to it.
Arsenal finished 8th in back to back seasons and are now title contenders for the second season in a row.
Liverpool finished above 6th only ONCE from 2009/10 till 2015/16.
Some Chelsea fans need to realize that we’ve been absolutely spoiled for trophies in the last 20 years. It’s absolutely normal to eventually go through a rough patch.
Arsenal finished 8th in back to back seasons and are now title contenders for the second season in a row.
And we were widely criticised for our finishing position.
Bruh, been a fan since 2009. I don’t mind not winning trophies. I don’t mind losing games either. It’s just whenever it rains, it pours for Chelsea.
We won the CL 2 years ago. Arsenal haven’t won a significant trophy since 2004.
We won the PL in 2017. United last won it in 2012.
We’ve been the most successful PL club in the last 20 years, although City might have equalled or passed us with the treble last year.
Yes, we’ve been shit for 2 years now, but that was obviously going to happen with Abramovic leaving. It’s our time to suffer for a bit now. I think that with a few more signings and the current youngsters developing a bit more, we have potential to be competing sooner rather than later. It might take a season or two, but we should be fine.

At least you easily admit you’re a plastic.
As an Arsenal fan this is not really a place where I see them. I consider them very strong and with huge potential. You were comparing them with United… every single position in United squad is much older, with midfield and defenders being almost decade apart. Not something United can fix over one transfer window or during the season.
But Chelsea has players from 18-23 years old in every single position that are considered world class talents and will grow into it, even Mudryk whos getting a lot of hate is only 22. The average age of their squad is 23 years, while having freaking Thiago Silva at almost 40 in the squad.
Palmer is amazing for his age, he will lead this team very far, having impact right off. The defense of Gusto, Colwill, james, Fofana, Badiashille… the oldest of them is James at 23. All of them can hold their own in the PL.
Midfield? Lavia, Enzo, Caicedo, Gallagher, Palmer… oldest of them Gallagher at 23.
Attackers? Jackson, Mudryk, Borja, Madueke… oldest 22 once again.
If they manage to keep them all in the squad and will enforce in the ATT area, as that seems as the weaker point and they will be very well set off.
But Chelsea has players from 18-23 years old in every single position that are considered world class talents and will grow into it, even Mudryk whos getting a lot of hate is only 22.
This is a fucking joke right?
Their players aren’t “world class talents” in the slightest.
I am talking about the young ones, yes, they do have two 26 and 28 year olds respectively. What does that have to do with anything?
You’re trying to argue that these are “world class talents” but none of them have had a single good season, let alone a world class one. Most of them haven’t even had a world class game yet.
You can have your opinion. If you as a world class see Ronaldo level of player at sub 20 you delusional. You do you.
It wasn’t that long ago when Arsenal finished 8th.
Not guaranteeing anything about Chelsea’s future, but you never really know.
It wasn’t that long ago when Arsenal finished 8th.
Which was an incredibly shit season for Arsenal who were widely criticised for it, and Arsenal hadn’t spent £1bn on new players in 3 windows.
Chelsea have taken a team that won the Champion’s League just 3 years ago to an 11th place finish last season, and now 10th almost halfway through this season.
Yeah I’m speaking as an Arsenal fan. All I’m saying is that it’s not out of scope for them to bounce back, whether it’s this season or next.
Give it a few years and maybe we’ll see that Todd Boehly is hopeless. Or maybe not
I don’t see anything to suggest that there’s anything positive coming for Chelsea. Their recruitment has been awful, I’ve not been impressed by any of their signings.
Would you take any of their signings at Arsenal? Hell. At Aston Villa?
Considering many of the players only met each other four months ago mid table is to be expected. No other club in the PL has attempted a virtual ‘clean slate’ start with a whole new inexperienced team and squad. We’re in slightly uncharted territory here, no one really knows how it’s going to work out. Yes it’s frustrating but it’s just where we are. The next stage of development, next generation of players to be bought is probably the most important. What can we afford? Who has to leave to pay for it? What does that do for remaining team moral?
No other club in the PL has attempted a virtual ‘clean slate’ start with a whole new inexperienced team and squad
Utter bollocks.
Or you could just give an example gobshite.
To say this hurts me: Chelsea will come back in 1-2 years. They sold off all their older talent and replaced a lot of them with new faces. They have had some brutal key injuries that haven’t helped them trying to get back to winning. If Chelsea are lower than 8th at the end of the year I’d be shocked. They don’t look bad when it’s clicking but it’s just hard to get a team this new to each other and that young to just gel. Especially when your key attacking signing took knock before you ever kicked off a meaningful game.
They sold off all their older talent and replaced a lot of them with new faces.
Except that their best keeper is still Kepa, their best defender is Thiago Silva, their best attacker is Sterling.
The new faces they have have all been largely useless.
Ummm…they can’t replace all 11 starters and expect to not take on FPP breaches.
Secondly, Silva finally looks human this year at like 75 years old. Sterling no matter how old he is will still be a solid player if shep’s got his legs.
Last of all, Nkuku was supposed to be there Shadow forward this season and he didn’t get out of preseason. Also Fofana, Lavia, Chillwell, James, Gusto, Saseta, Calobah, and Chukwumeka all are current listed on the injury report. Only 6 of the players will return potentially by the new year, four then are out till next season.
I loathe Chelsea, but I’m not gonna blame Silva and Sterling who are carrying a team in their 30’s without many healthy young legs around them.
