I don’t know about Arthur Smith. I know some people are defending him cuz he can design a good offense, but I think he’s got some personality flaws. And those flaws make him not use his best guys. Here’s a video on him and why he’s not a good fit personality-wise.
I liked the beer thing last year with the linemen, but his arrogance is hurting the team. He needs to design the scheme to the players, not assume that his scheme is more important than what they do well, and that seems to be an issue at times. His derisive “fantasy” crap doesn’t mean anything when the team isn’t good: he’s screwing up fantasy teams and Atlanta.
I cannot stand many of his pass route combos that seem to draw defenders into the action isntead of away from it. I was watching the SF game this weekend and came away very frustrated with how much better Shanahan is at scheming guys open: defenders were exiting the area that the ball was being thrown to, whereas Smith’s offense often has them converging.
I think the biggest question actually is “can he consistently design a good offense” I don’t really have as big an issue with ball distribution as most people, but hate a lot of his route concepts. All the other “personality” stuff is small potatoes. I’d lean toward moving on from him this year, but it really feels like people are upset at the wrong things.
