Hi all,

I have been interested in a robot vac for a while now and I still have about 8-10 months left until I move into a double story house.

I can’t actually wet my floors in the house so I am only after the vacuum side of them and not the mopping.

Based in Australia and my budget isn’t too much of a factor as I don’t mind scouring for sales for the 8-10 months, if anyone has any recommendations on the best robot vac purely for vacuuming that would be much appreciated, thanks!

I have one of the lower end IRobot vacuums, i3 I think maybe, and it is absolutely amazing. It misses some spots like along the edges of the wall in hard to reach places but I don’t mind one bit having to get those spots myself. The rest of the floor is crazy clean. It does not get stuck often either. I have had a cheaper one before that was not even close in ability to this one. No matter which one you get though, just go into it knowing that the more prep you do for it the better the outcome will be. Example, pick up the floors, put chairs on the table, sweep out the places it can’t get, etc.

Roborock looks great but is it usable offline or are you forced to export your home layout and unknown other data its collecting to china?

This is interesting. Can you expand on why?

I’m in a similar boat to OP. I’m interested, want something that will integrate with home assistant… IRobot and Roborock are the two obvious names but I hadn’t heard much strongly suggesting one over the other

I have never owned an iRobot, but my friend does. He sees mine has color maps, LEDs that automatically turn on when it’s in a dark area, has a camera+lidar, which you can use the camera to watch, and has two way audio. If you also search the Roborock forum here for people migrating from iRobot to Roborock, you’ll find similar complaints regarding iRobot, and how they wish they just got Roborock sooner, etc.

Check out vacuum wars on youtube. My only recommendation is to get one that has either a camera or lidar for mapping. The vacuums that have no mapping may look enticing because they are cheap, but they are no where near as nice.

Shark is not a quality product, I was happy with it till it just stopped working. If you want a dumb robot vac my 2 eufy vacs still work.
