I currently use motion sensing echos and a hue motion sensor to trigger alexa routines that alert me to key activity at my elderly mother’s house (she lives alone). I’ve set it up so that I get a text when there is first activity in the morning and when there is activity in the kitchen.

But I’d also like to be alerted when there has been no motion activity sensed (for example, no kitchen activity sensed for 6 hours). I can’t figure out how to do this via Alexa routines. There is an echo driven option but that only seems to sense a lack of activity for about 30 minutes (handy if the goal is to turn off the lights in an empty room) and the motion sensor “checks in” with Alexa frequently which I believe Alexa is seeing as activity since I can’t get a routine to successfully trigger from that device.

Any suggestions or ideas on how I could accomplish this would be greatly appreciated.

Take a look at the Aqara hub and motion sensor. You can create automations on thier hub that can send a push notification if their motion sensor is has not sensed motion for a certain amount of time.

I have not used this feature myself, so I don’t know how well it works, but the functionality is there.

r/Aqara is the subreddit for Aqara. You can buy a hub and a motion sensor on Amazon.

Appreciate the suggestion and I’ll check it out. I’m used to setting up routines in Alexa. If I’m using Aqara, are the “routines” set up via their hub I assume? (I haven’t used a stand-alone hub yet).
