I mean we can sort by new or hot or active etc. But can we add more algorithms that people can then choose. For example id love to be able to have an algorithm that allows me to rate communities so I could say rate a meme community 1 and a chess community 10 so I only see the best of the meme community and most of thr chess posts, since I find meme communities dominate your feed otherwise.
Theres a new algorithm that should be coming in an update soon (I assume 0.19) called Scaled
This is basically the hot algorithm but takes into account the monthly active users of the community so communities with less monthly active users show up more and arent dominated by the meme communities
Would fix the issue you say there
Is there some kind of a roadmap when 0.19 might come out?
It’s supposed to come out soon but there’s some compatibility issues with apps still which may delay instances that want to remain as compatible as possible. It’s a pretty big change.
sometime in the next couple weeks probably based on their last development update
you can try it out on https://voyager.lemmy.ml/
I made an account and subscribed to a bunch of communities on there to test out, seems pretty good
Is the link down?
Yep haha, it was just running when I made my comment. It’s the alpha testing server so it does go down sometimes.
Oh nice, thanks
I for one would just like the hot algorithm to be fixed to remove the same post (not a x-post) appearing at multiple spots in the feed, and the new algorithm to actually be chronological, and not some weird hot/new hybrid.
I would like the ability to create your own algorithm and implement it.
I’ve heard that bluesky is attempting something like this but I’m dubious about bluesky generally. Otherwise, I think this is a killer feature of the fediverse that has really not yet materialized.
I think the actual problem here is that URL posts are linked (and combined in the feed) automatically but text posts can’t be linked at all.
