It always helps to refills my metal guage. I’m a pretty big computer geek as well, so its extra relevant to me. Was I too partial you think?

So, I’m thinking of Pat Boone’s cover of Nine Inch Nails - Hurt and if that god-awful piece of shit song is considered metal, and this song is clearly no less than an 11 to it’s 10, then by default it should receive at least a small consideration of metal status.

Or ask yourself this. Should we punish Weird Al for putting down the accordian and picking up an electric guitar or encourage him? The choice is yours friend.

Weird Al punishes himself, for everyone’s enjoyment :) that’s probably pretty metal. Dancing like Michael Jackson while wearing a full fat suit is testament to that.

However I really can’t take Pentiums as a metal song. It’s a white boy rap with a pop guitar riff, you could almost say “pop metal” or point at the riffs and compare it to the origins of “nu metal”, but it just doesn’t really fit in my head. It’s too nerdy to be metal.

That doesn’t mean Al hasn’t done plenty of metal songs, far from it. I’ll Sue Ya, Smells Like Nirvana, or CNR to name a few. Metal requires a certain attitude, which can be comical, but I just don’t think that Pentiums has it. Pretty Fly for a Rabbi is closer to metal, just like Amnish Paradise is closer to a rap song. Pentiums is its own niche that doesn’t really fit with the others. Like early days Bo Burnham.

Saying that though I’ve always been terrible with genres, particularly the more niche ones. If you want to think of it as metal then go for it, don’t let me stop you. For myself, I’d turn to Murmaider (NSFL cartoon) to recharge my metalometer.

Suffice it to say, Weird Al is a fucking legend. He made music history with a 30 year 10 album deal with Sony, and calling his last album “Mandatory Fun” was just icing on the cake. Getting Daniel Radcliffe to play him in the documentary was perfect as well, no one else could have better depicted Al’s relationship with Madonna.
