I used to carry a laminated pope card waaay back. Sadly the lamination was not good forever, which led to lamentation.
Back then a couple of people asked about mome cards - since they didn’t want to be all poperearchical and these days that seems a bit restrictive too, so how about xoxe cards?
I have just found this resource on Github: an editable svg card, so have just made the requisite edits.
It is pronounced ‘Xoxe’ of course.
The point of the original card was to subvert patriarchal iconographies, wasn’t it?
If you aren’t using the word Pope, I don’t see how this does the same work.
What am I missing?
I have yet to meet anyone who didn’t make the connection between Mome and Pope. It just put the two on equal footing. Xoxe doesn’t seem like that much of an additional stretch to me - but you do you.
I expect there’s something in this I have missed. I don’t have the context of momes. Clue me in please?
Pope ultimately derives from the Latin for father. Mome is the (whimsical) counterpart i’.e. ‘mother’. It’s not really intended to be any deeper than that.
Ah damn. I should have picked that up. I haven’t been in these circles for over a decade. Thanks for explaining!
