Christianism is fundamentally incompatible with modern society.
It isn’t though, especially if you follow the teachings of Jesus.
Most self proclaimed Christians just use it as an excuse to justify their hate and don’t actually know what’s in the Bible. Imo Episcopalians get it the most right.
For instance, the Bible says in like 3 different places that life begins at the first breath. It also literally has abortion ritual instructions.
Being Christian has little to do with following Jesus. There’s a whole death of that religion that is very against his teachings.
In fact, if people really followed Jesus, you wouldn’t even know they were Christians. They’d just be good people.
If most people of a specific religion are incompatible with modern society, then the religion is incompatible with modern society.
If I was in a gang where most of the gang were murderers, it would be safe to say that is a murderous gang even if I myself have never murdered anyone.
They aren’t of that religion though. It’s in name only. If most of them called themselves atheists, the beliefs of “atheism” wouldn’t change— those people would just be wrong.
Your comment is an example of the ‘no-true scotsman’ falacy. These people believe in Christianity and believe what they are doing is consistent with the religion. That’s literally all it takes to be part of the religion, regardless of whether or not someone else thinks they aren’t following the religion strictly enough. To that end, they could say that you are not a real Christian because you don’t follow their perception of how the religion should be followed. Whose to say who is right when everyone can interpret the bible their own way. And it’s not like the religious leaders are coming out against right wing authoritarianism, hell a lot of them preach every sunday.
That’s all a long winded way to say that yes, these people are christians and in the united states over half of them believe and vote in a way that makes them incompatible with modern society.
I’m not going to spend my time arguing with you. I will say this though: Christianity has a source book. Think on it.
Ah yes, the source book. The almighty Bible. Full of wonderful passages like: 1 Peter 2:18 - ‘Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh’ Exodus 21:7-8 - ‘When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again.’ Hosea 13:16 - ‘Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.’
Yeah, how could a religion with such a wonderful book ever be bad?
You are putting words in my mouth. I’m ex-Christian for a reason. I tried to be minimal with my point, and I really don’t have the mental energy to argue with you more than that right now.
Source book that nobody has done any QA on to look for errors

There’s a famous saint, Brigid of Kildare, who was an “abortionist.” She was an Irish abbess who performed miracles. One of her nuns got pregnant (legend is spotty about how, if it was rape, consensual, or if the man was a priest or a layman) and Brigid stopped the gestation just by touching the nun’s abdomen. Conservative people will argue and say “no, it wasn’t an abortion, it was a time warp back so the fetus had never been conceived” or something… But… It seemed to be an abortion to me. Of course there’s no record of Brigid’s own memoirs or diaries, just those of her followers and some of the nuns who reported to her, so her life is somewhat mysterious. There’s other saints out there with similar stories about aiding in reproductive choices, but Brigid is the first to come to mind. And as far as the prophets go about the welfare of babies, Solomon encouraged two mothers to split a baby in half. He was somewhat joking as a test to see who was the true mother of the baby, but still, it’s kind of a sick joke and he’s supposed to be one of the good guys. (Also, the false mother is the one who is content about cutting the baby and that makes no sense to me. Even though the King determined the baby wasn’t hers, why does she have no humanity or knowledge of what happens when humans are split apart? Being horrified by his joke isn’t really a requisite to being a real parent).
I feel like the Solomon baby story is either abridged or has lost elements to it. Who knows how lomg that fucking argument couldve been going, perhaps “saw the baby in half” was plan z.
Most self proclaimed Christians just use it as an excuse to justify their hate
It’s been like that for two thousand years, other major religions are the same.
So you’re saying we shouldn’t trust an organization that only thinks things get better when you die?
Yeah, not trusting those lunatics with anything
You spelled it wrong… Theocratic fascism
It’s almost as if these people think of women just as baby machines /s
And how dare they step out of the kitchen!
Also how dare they need to take time off work to give birth and care for a newborn!

The scariest part of that story is as soon as the religious right gained control they instantly nuked all the blue states.
I used to fantasize about California joining with Washington and Oregon and splitting off from the rest of the US, but then one day I realized the rest of the US would almost instantly devolve into a dangerous theocracy and go to war with the western states who would be heavily outgunned
The problem with California, New York or any blue state separating from the right wing controlled states is that those right wing states rely so heavily on the tax dollars collected from to Democratic states that they could never allow them to separate. Where would they get their money from?

Yet Colorado Springs was somehow fine. The author must not know a lot of the evangelicals left COS for Idaho.
tHe rEliGiOuS rIgHt lol.
The religious left isn’t much to talk about.
Neither is the religious right, but you losers never seem to shut up since you need the steawman
Who are the ‘losers’ you are referring to? The American public, Democrats, the media, or just anyone you don’t like?
The people like you who use made up scapegoats like the religious right to broadly dismiss dissent without having to actually make a grounded argument and defend your position
Who exactly do you think was clamoring to overturn Roe?
and/or
Have you ever even heard of The Handmaid’s Tale?
The religious wrong.
It still is for anyone not suffering from insane delusions
This reply is to the only delusional one in this comment chain.
Look in a mirror, bub.
No rights, no pussy. You tell 'em girls.
USA! USA! USA! /s 😞
has the number of divorces/separations increased as well, or is there less interest in tracking that?
Those take time give it a few more months
I consider myself a follower of Jesus and have gone on many rants about how Christianity is actually the roman religion rebranded with a stolen name.
I will say that there are plenty of “Christian” churches that legitimately follow Jesus - he was very anti-institution though, so by nature any church based on his teachings is going to be pretty humble.
