Hey all! Want to see if anyone here has a recommendation for a good hand truck for a diy’er / home owner. I wouldn’t use it frequently, but when it’s needed it is the right tool for the job. Had to move a fridge yesterday, and regretted not having one already. Thanks!

I don’t have a specific model but I’ve used tons over the years and the one common denominator version is the basic red (sometimes blue or green) one you’ve probably been using your whole life. It’s not perfect for everything but it works for most things. If you aren’t regularly moving fridges, a fridge dolly isn’t as effective for other things. Tires deflate and get holes. Tall ones are harder to maneuver and take up more space. You can also hack a regular to make it more versatile by adding ratcheting straps of your own. If you live somewhere with stairs the three wheeled dollys that can “walk” up/down stairs may be worthwhile, but otherwise go basic. That’s my 2 cents!

I’ll defer to your experience but I do have a specific model I’m familiar with. It’s the one from Costco but I think it’s sold elsewhere and has like 3 modes. One regular one, one where it’s upright but at an angle, and one where it’s almost like a wagon. I use it to bring in gardening or pool supplies from the car mostly but it works for most things. It does have pneumatic tires but I’ve had it several years and they haven’t been a problem… yet.

Honestly, I just got a cheap one from harbor freight. I have to pump up the wheels before I use it, but it’s served me well for the past 6-7 years. I think most of them will do the job. (I also feel the same about wheelbarrows)
