The greatest threat will not be the AI, but the hordes of gullible morons who will be manipulated by it.
“The real threat is not the gun, but the bullets that come out of it”. It’s both, and the malicious actors using the AI (or gun, or other tool).

Humans have proven that they aren’t mentally ready for an internet saturated post-truth world. Arguably, some aren’t even ready for cable news in a post-truth world.
How is this different from the world we’ve already been living in? Religion literally rules 70%+ percent of the people on this planet. Everything up to now has been heavily influenced by said lies. Wars, conquest, science denial and thus halting real progress.
