Who here has gotten a dev job in the last few months and is excited about it?

Did you bump your pay? Improve your work life balance? Get a better manager or team? Are working on something you enjoy?

I want to hear all the positive career news you folks have to give!

I’m at the same job, but yes to the bump in pay.

My work life balance is pretty solid. I like and trust my director a lot. I enjoy what I do.

The surreal part for me is that I’ve kept my team intact this year. As a manager of developers, retaining talent makes my job so much easier, and my team so much more productive.

I like to imagine the reason I’ve kept my team is I’m just that good of a boss.

But I suspect the real reason is big companies who used to routinely steal my talented staff are more routinely fucking up their public image by doing layoffs during record profit years, and are asking people to visit in-person offices to spread Coronavirus and the Flu.

But anyway, it’s possible for two things to be true, so I might also be a great boss.

Edit: I daresay developers have long memories, and I may continue enjoying the “fuck those guys” boost to my own hiring for about the next decade. But, of course, Activision’s will rise from Ataris, and Nvidia’s will rise from SGI’s - so I’ll try not to get too comfortable.

I moved to a new job at a non profit as a dev at a large non profit and I like it much more. Far more challenging work for a great cause.

Graduated last September. I had joined a RoR full-stack internship last year around the last week of October 2022. Quit that shitty job around the end of January, tried applying for about four months, while learning React and ExpressJS alongside, and after that, I just gave up around September.

At this point, I don’t even know. I am actually interested in niche stuff like embedded, graphics and system programming, but there’s no scope in my country. I’m not really finding it fulfilling to learn web technologies. For now, I’m working on a NextJS tutorial to learn about WebSocket and perhaps something about meta-frameworks. Looking for an internship again, because entry-level jobs are next to impossible, at least with the unbelievable requirements, but internships roles in Wellfound are also absolute garbage. They’re looking for a 5+ YOE engineer with the salary of an intern. Fuck the labor laws in India.
