Hello, bees. I recently fled Ireland due to the massive housing crisis nearly making me homeless again and ended up in Germany. Finding housing is somewhat more plausible here but still very hard and I don’t vibe with the culture. (´°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥ω°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥`) I’m looking at Netherlands since they have the highest ratio of English speakers in a non English default country. I applied to some jobs about now and will see how it goes. I hope I can find temporary housing in the meantime and eventually move. Sorry if my tears covered some of the text. Anyway, has anyone moved there? How’s the experience?
You left Ireland because of housing issues to move to Holland?
I was born and still live in the Netherlands and I enjoy living here for the most part, but I don’t think the material conditions are gonna improve any time soon and assuming by your username last I checked the Netherlands does not recognize non binary as a valid legal gender identity so that might not be preferable for you.
I moved to the Netherlands a year and a half ago from South Africa, I had some issues finding a place at first but as soon as I get that worked out everything clicked together very fast.
The people here are extremely blunt but in a good way, the sort of blunt person that tells you your fly is down the second they see it.
I’m more than happy to chat if you want to learn more about my experience :P
I applied for my dream job and I hope to hear back from them. We will see. It would be amazing if I got to move there AND work in a cool place. Edit: my Discord atm is bedlamb#8269
It depends on what you didn’t like about Germany I reckon. Dutch culture can come across as very blunt, in your face, or even disrespectful.
Almost every Dutch person will be able to smalltalk a bit and help you get around. That part should be fine for you I think.
The housing situation is pretty difficult and is something you should probably solve for yourself as soon as you find a job there.
