    Regarding mail: Have a look at “not much”. It’s main selling point is a searchable inbox. Mutt is also popular, albeit somewhat archaic looking.

      Phew, blast from the past here. I used to have a whole thing with Mutt + offlineimap + a custom Python script for procmail-like filtering (I feel very old right now). It had to go away because, at the time, offlineimap broke MS Exchange. Something about there being a global limit for custom headers. Fixed now of course but Mutt/oimap never made a return after that.

      The thing about not-much mail, unless it’s changed, is that it’s a CLI program on a single machine. A hypothetical mail app would need a protocol to ask the server to perform a search. Otherwise you’re downloading your entire mail account (or at least the search index) to every device. I was kind of hoping Fastmail’s JMAP would solve this somehow but I don’t think it does.
