Teeny tiny peridot. It was a very cheap bit of rough for around £1, so I’m amazed I managed to get anything out of it at all. Still, I’m happy with the result and have a bit more experience with stuff that needs Aluminium Oxide to polish. Design is Emerald by Justin K. Prim
Are there any good videos that you know of that show the cutting process? Fascinating stuff.
Do a search for Justin K Prim… he has a whole you tube channel.
Also I posted a series of posts earlier in this community showing how I cut a stone. Check it out.

Finally got around to looking at his channel and it’s exactly what I was looking for in terms of it making the subject accessible. Thanks again! I stumbled into this community as this post was on Top 6 hrs and had no idea you could do these things at home (barring the expense of those tools he was using). Edit: After looking more into this I’m guessing you and Dyntrall do this professionally? So maybe not accessible at home then lol
The gems you and Dyntrall have been posting have been quite amazing!
This is a hobby of mine since high school. My mom was a geologist and got me hooked on minerals. I learned while in high school from a Japanese woman who did it for a living.
This is totally doable as a hobby, it just isn’t a cheap hobby. Finding somewhere to learn is tough, as this isn’t a common hobby and there are few places that offer classes. You almost need to find a cutter willing to teach.
Thank you!
Not bad for £1!
Soy un peridot!
Cutting small stones is such a pain… great job!
