When I was as small as I can remember, we had a cat named Jake. An orange tabby. He got in a lot of fights. I remember him with a messed up ear and snuggling with me. We were best friends. I can’t ever not think of Jake when I see an orange tabby. Jake got hit by a car in 1979.

It always sucks but at least you shared that time together.

I tell the story of an incredible acrobatic fly catch by one of my kitties as though it happened that day. Still extremely proud of her. What a good hunter.

One that we tell wasn’t acrobatic but just hilarious to us. Cat was chasing after a fly, then it disappeared and we were worried he had eaten it. We kept calling to him and he wouldn’t move. Then we picked him up and realized he’d had it trapped under his dainty little paw.

Edited to add pic of our fly-hunter:

That is so true and beautiful. I think about my pets of the past and I think about how awesome they were and the good times I had with them. Even the ones I had as a kid.

My cats died, one after 19 years and the other after 25 years. Poor guys, gave us so much, but were wasting away in their last 6 months. We had to put them to sleep, they were not able to even move their little legs, nor eat.

They had a great life they even got to migrate with us and travel by plane.

They hunted and ate many pigeons, which for indoors cats living in an 8th floor always surprised me.

They also were incredibly smart, learned to play fetch with their toys, vocalize, complain, ask for food, litter and water, they even opened doors and the water valve if they wanted fresher water .

They recognized our car when arriving from work and poked their heads out the Windows when we arrived, always waiting at the door for us.

    Cuddling was a given

They loved tv as well, lion king was a preferred movie for them.

I still have their ashes in their urn and carry everywhere I move over.

    I’ll always remember them.

I miss my cat Macy so much. She passed away in Jan 2022. Best cat ever. This is true.
