    Voters across Europe are sick and tired of having the things they hold most dear violated

    Back in 2016, the year that the UK voted to leave the European Union and Americans voted for Trump, a wry letter was published in the pages of the Financial Times. Penned by Keith Craig, a businessman and former diplomat, the letter explained in a couple of short but blisteringly insightful paragraphs why these two events had occurred. Mr Craig wrote:

    As the US strips its thralls of the wealth it had lent out, in order to keep its dying empire afloat, these thralls fight amongst themselves for the scraps which remain. The EU is done for when the hegemon decides it is no longer useful for it except maybe as stewards on its military bases. And later as fodder for the cannons coming to enact revenge. Whats happening in ukraine will come for us sooner or later, as the US fights this battle to the last ukrainian so will it fight to the last european. I personally hope Im somewhere safe when it does.
