I don’t have kids, but if I did I would be pretty strict about giving them healthy meals so they don’t end up eating like shit the way I do. If I can resist giving my dogs (which IMO are cuter than children) treats, I can certainly resist giving trash food to a human kid.

Looks like it’s the same place? It points back to lemmy.world for me.

It can be a touchy community sometimes, but it looks like you are winning some of those sweet, sweet internets points… For now. ;)

Well, yeah, my point was to show that I reposted it in the parrenting community.

Oh, and Lemmy doesn’t count upvotes/downvotes on profiles any more 😁. In a post or a comment, yeah, it shows them, but only for that particular post or comment.

Apple sauce and milk for a meal? And TV going on in the background? The apple sauce is a snack, not a meal.

Make the kid some protein pancakes, pureed veggies, etc. I have three kids and a full-time job, and I do much better than that. It’s not hard to switch it up and get a good variety, especially at 1yo when a smoothie (easy to throw veggies in) is generally well liked.

Sometimes you need to be firm and let them miss a meal if they refuse the food offered, but usually there’s a way to get them to eat something reasonably healthy. This seems like the mother is frustrated and just wants the kid to eat something, but the kid doesn’t seem to be starving, so they can afford to be more strict.

The only thing you need to be a good parent is the desire to be a good parent. If it’s something you want to do, read up on parenting strategies. I really liked Parenting with Love and Logic (recommended by our pediatrician), and there’s a ton of other support options out there as well.

If you don’t want to, that’s cool too.
