It is horrible how reddit propagandists are working overtime to make Navalny into a martyr for the liberals.

Maybe he should’ve put some more time thinking things through instead of watching rick and morty. Like seriously, how dumb do you have to be to expect a warming welcome after plotting a color revolution 😂

Legitimate question, what’s the take here? Navalny bad? Rick and Morty redditors are cringe, I know, but is there more to this post?

Google tells me navalny was racist, which mostly answers my question but I’m interested to hear other things I missed

There is no take here. It is basically propaganda trying to associate someone as despicable as Navalny with something that redditors might relate to(watching Rick and Morty). It is the same strategy that Beer companies do with ads with beaches where you associate the brand with a beach and parties. In the case of Navalny, it is a way to make people think that Navalny is a normal human being just like any of us. RedSails have a great article on how ads work https://redsails.org/dont-work-that-way/

Quote: “The objective [of advertising],” the article continues, “is to seed positive ideas and memories that will attract you to the brand.”

Its the usual procedure of whitewashing despicable persons by making them relatable. Its easier to find out that he liked rick and morty than it is to find out about his views on race.

Navalny was a literal Nazi who wanted to kill Muslims and referred to them as “cockroaches”. Fuck him lol I’m glad he’s dead

people like to act like navalny was a neonazi which is dumb and makes them sound goofy but he was basically a big tent anti-putin guy. when asked about how he saw a future russia he called it “Big Canada” with a western-type democracy with a somewhat center left economic policy and a bit nativist policy towards migrants. with that view he has flirted with somewhat mild liberalism and some amount of nationalism and a whole lot of anti-corruptionism. undoubtedly, if he were to have ever taken power it would’ve meant the neoliberalization of russia and represented the vestigial socialist policies and politico-economic structure being gutted

making sketchy comparisons between bugs and militants in a gun ad during an insurgency does not exactly make one a neonazi. racism to that level is fairly common among non-neonazis I would say. and naturally, if you’re gonna bring that up as the smoking gun it would be criminal to not mention that putin actually sent troops to deal with those insurgents which is much worse than saying racist things. still, if you wanna make the argument he is a neo-nazi I think there are better things to point to like his attendance of the russian march or being in a political party alongside former national bolsheviks. I personally wouldn’t say guilt by association is that solid and I feel like you lose nuance by using it. cheapens the word nazi
