Veloren is an open-source alternative. That, or Cube World. This looks like a bunch of liars, who promised way too much, and are failing to deliver it.
I know of Veloren but it didn’t seem like a sandbox game last time I played it. It seems to be more focused on RPG elements and didn’t seem like the terrain could be easily modified like minecraft, but maybe that has changed since then.
