The 46th president’s advanced age has led a small number of Democrats to call for him to stand aside in favour of a younger, presumably more vigorous candidate who, in his critics’ telling, would easily best Mr Trump.

But while speaking at a fundraiser outside Boston on Tuesday, Mr Biden said Mr Trump’s persistence on the political scene is why he is not stepping aside in favour of a new generation.

Biden is old, but I think it’s important to remember he did beat Trump in 2020, and that was after Trump had sent signed stimulus checks to nearly every American household just a few weeks before. It was a good campaign.

I would love to see a younger candidate; 82 is old for any job. But right now, I think Biden is the best we have got.

Hopefully, we can stop Trump once and for all this time. I don’t want to see the world where he gets back into the oval office.

    Edit: clarity

Friendly reminder that if Trumps wins in 2024, he’ll leave office older than Biden is. It’s not directly relevant, but it’s worth noting that this doesn’t seem to come up in these conversations about our elected officials age for some reason.

Biden, regardless of what one thinks of him, has totally bungled all public messaging in his presidency. No claimed victories, and constantly alienating the younger/active left. Look at this article, it doesn’t inspire confidence to suggest “yeah it’s past my time but…”

I think enough Americans hate a loser more than they fear a fascist. Not a majority, but enough in the right places. I’m hoping for divine intervention at this point

Fascism is quite popular anywhere so long as the fascists are promising you fascist rule that will benefit you at the expense of your enemies. People easily forget that the government will inevitably be turned against them at some point.
