So how will Apple craft this announcement in a way that avoids showing some kind of submission to the will and desires of the Android juggernaut? Let me guess… Anyone texting in from hardware other than an iPhone will still get the funky balloon color, eh?

Green was always the default in the Messages app. Apple added blue to distinguish new iMessages. I see no reason for RCS not to stay with the default green.

This is the announcement. Next year during WWDC they will have a like item about it on a slide and that’ll be it. They will continue to have features that RCS doesn’t support, and they won’t work outside of apples ecosystem.

Tim Apple: “Today, we’re excited to announce ‘Kumbaya Messaging’™️ for iOS, iPadOS, WatchOS, and MacOS! Kumbaya Messaging™️ brings not only Apple Ecosystem™️enjoyers closer together through rich, more connected communications, but will allow all your friends and family who are still using Android to be able to be able to enjoy all of your shitposting gifs, memeojis, and Live Photo™️ snapshots of your take-out pho, including the hilariously embarrassing audio you always forget about. We at Apple want to bridge the divides in our daily lives, and with Kumbaya Messaging™️, we believe we can bring all of us that much closer together.”

      Yep.

I wonder if this has anything to do with some sort of EU compliance requirement. Either way, you can guarantee Android messages will still have green bubbles, but if it doesn’t break iMessage chats, maybe people will chill out about it.

Yes, the EU is considering forcing Apple to open up imessage, so Apple doing this as kind of a pre emotive move to try and convince them that’s not necessary anymore because see we’re finally implementing rcs.

Figured as much. Knowing Apple though, they’ll find a form of malicious compliance that satisfies the requirements but still keeps the shit show rolling.
